Oh, Hi! - Plugged In Movie Review

‘Oh, Hi!’ delivers a message on modern relationships that’s wrecked by explicit sexual content, foul language and questionable spirituality. Even when sex is not being shown on screen, the movie makes plenty of room for suggestive and bluntly sexual dialogue. Sexual positions are referenced, alongside mentions of other intimate functions. And, not for nothing, the film makes a major plot point of sexual bondage. As the story turns, it becomes clear that Iris and Isaac have very different romantic priorities. The dialogue is sharp. And when the tale’s vibe tilts from rom-com to true crime, it keeps you guessing what will happen until the very end. That said, the movie’s ideas about love and commitment are firmly rooted in secular ideals, even as this satire skewers them. And that’s to say nothing of the explicit sexual content, heaps of foul language, the lingering threat of violence and a subplot revolving around witchcraft. Oh, Hi! (2025) ⭐ 6.2 | Comedy

Oh, Hi!: Directed by Sophie Brooks. With Molly Gordon, Logan Lerman, Geraldine Viswanathan, John Reynolds. Iris and Isaac's first romantic weekend getaway goes awry in a most unexpected way. Surprisingly hilarious. I went into this movie completely blind; bought a last minute tickets because there was a Q&A afterward which I always try to catch. I didn't expect much because I hadn't even heard of it, but it turned out way better than anticipated. From the start, I genuinely had no idea the story would take the turns it did, I assume maybe the trailer could be revealing but I hadn't seen it. The handcuffs gave me vague "Gerald's Game" vibes, though this takes things in a much more comedic direction. Her making breakfast had me laughing out loud. The movie just generally a lot of laughs from everybody. It does lose a bit of momentum in the middle, with the characters(plus you, yourself watching) just waiting to see how this all ends. But the finale ties everything up nicely. I was surprised I hadn't seen this movie advertised anywhere, but turns out this screening was a month before the official release.Hopefully, more people see it then because it worth a watch. All four, or five, of the main actors have great performances and chemistry which is what made the movie fun. Especially Molly Gordon. Also, side note, it always blows my mind how long it takes to make movies.

Oh, Hi! movie review & film summary (2025) | Roger Ebert

“Oh, Hi!” is full of laugh-out-loud moments, but it thrives in the ways it embodies quiet, shattering devastation. Brooks shifts between genres, offering intrigue as her narrative evolves. The first scene could be taken out of any rural slasher movie, where Iris (Molly Gordon) stares blankly in wide-eyed panic in a cozy rental home. She’s visited by her friend, Max (Geraldine Viswanathan), who asks what’s wrong.Once the two arrive at the rental home, the kitchen, nearby lake, and bedroom just become further ways for them to express their obvious affection for each other. The two move with an ease and security within each other, which is all a clever misdirect as things take a turn for the kinky and calamitous. It flirts with melodrama, but it’s never quite as histrionic as other films of its ilk, and that’s because it’s anchored by an earnest inquisition–mainly around the isolating nature of modern relationships–that keeps it focused as it sifts through its various tones. It works best in conversation with projects across this year, like “Materialists,” “Splitsville,” and even “Together,” which have dramatized the angst of the commitment-phobic into tales of destabilizing dread. It’s a deeply human experience to long for someone who’s unavailable and to treasure a love that’s true but can’t last.

Oh, Hi Movie Ending Explained & Full Story: What Does This Boy Want? | Film Fugitives

Man meets woman, they fall in love, they face a crisis, it strengthens their bond, and they end up together. For the longest time, meet-cute romances would Man meets woman, they fall in love, they face a crisis, it strengthens their bond, and they end up together. For the longest time, meet-cute romances would look like this—a little syrupy here, a little confetti there; one where words like “lovers,” “fate,” “destiny,” and “forever” can be uttered in the same breath.Anything from here onwards has drastically changed; it has multiplied into a spectrum of possibilities, relationship being one of them, sure, but a multitude of other terms related to dating like “situationship,” “talking stage,” “ghosting,” “shrekking,” “ghostlighting,” “lovebombing,” “banksying,” and whatnot. There are full-fledged industries churning up newer terms and newer dynamics, and I am not sure which comes before—the reality or the definition. Oh, Hi is a highly entertaining film starting off as a rom-com getaway film between two lovers, which soon changes track and makes a stunning satire out of modern-day relationship dynamics.Iris and Issac drive to O High Falls for their romantic weekend getaway. The two look like they are in the early stages of dating and have a lot of spark alive, both romantically and sexually. As they are having a fun time in and around the cottage, they find a closet full of bondage materials for intimacy.

Logan Lerman Talks 'Oh, Hi!', Social Media, Situationships

Now the internet has all these monikers for people and they just catch on. It’s flattering, I guess. I just hope it means I can get some movies made.” Oh, Hi!! is one such movie Lerman is grateful for. He stars as Isaac, one half of a brand-new couple on their first weekend trip upstate. I was thinking the whole time during pre production that they were going to be metal cuffs. I’m like, ‘How do we do this all day long?’ But they were comfortable leather straps. It was actually a really great experience being tied to a bed for most of the movie.”Comes from building a romantic comedy around a situationship. The genre is known for its happily ever afters — or at least something close — but the movie’s heart comes from how serious this relationship is to Iris, even though she can’t even call it one.Lerman won’t give an example of the craziest thing he’s done for love, but he notes it’s a universal experience to end up doing something foolish for a relationship. “I found myself being more of an Iris than an Isaac, personality wise, so it was kind of fun to play the Isaac type in the movie, because it’s truly not who I am at all,” he says.(In 2021, a tweet calling him the “white boy of the century” became such a staple on the app that friends got the post printed onto his birthday cake.) Lerman calls the attention “flattering,” but it’s clear that the consistent focus feels less like a compliment and more a stunning realization at just how much the movie-making business has changed since he started acting, all thanks to social media.

Oh, Hi! (2025) - Movie Review

Oh, Hi!, 2025. Written and Directed by Sophie Brooks. SYNOPSIS: Iris has met her perfect ... It’s an unhinged premise that could have worked as the dark romantic comedy Sophia Brooks is gunning for, except that it doesn’t take long for the movie to stretch that idea far beyond its limits while introducing new characters and dynamics, gradually becoming ridiculous to an unbelievable extent that derails the whole experience about 45 minutes before it is made evident that there isn’t a convincing, reasonable message to make here about messy and/or toxic connections.Even the attempts at comedy start to come across as too ludicrous for the severity of what is happening in this story, at one point involving a concoction of a witchcraft potion. It’s not funny, but the real issue is that, after a particular moment, Oh, Hi! shouldn’t be going for laughs. Yet it continues to dig itself a deeper hole, with a truly eye-roll-inducing ending. Oh, Hi! Movie: Logan Lerman Reveals He Spent Ten Cumulative Days in Bed Filming with Molly Gordon

Logan Lerman and Molly Gordon speak about their new movie Oh, Hi!, including how they kept empathy for Isaac and Iris, and what the movie taught them about love. The question at the center of the new movie Oh, Hi! is a universally upsetting one: What do you do when you like someone a lot and they simply do not like you as much in return? It's enough to drive any sane, rational person to their limits. When Iris (Molly Gordon) and Isaac (Logan Lerman) go on their first trip together as a "couple," Iris finds out that actually, Isaac doesn't think they are a couple.Iris freaks out, and her solution is to strap Isaac to the bed and spend the next 12 hours trying to convince him they should be together. The movie is an exploration of what that kind of rejection does to someone like Iris, and why someone like Isaac chooses to reject someone who he seemingly really enjoys. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Logan and Molly spoke about whether they find that feeling as relatable as the rest of us, how they kept empathy for Isaac and Iris, and what the movie, directed by Sophie Brooks, taught them about love.I just read the script, and I thought it was really, really great, and it was exactly what I wanted to see in theaters. This is the version of a romantic movie that is exciting to me, and I really wanted to be a part of it. It was evident on the page that I would have to be in the position that I'm in throughout filming, and that doesn't bother me at all.

Review: ‘Oh, Hi!’ is a movie that has no business working, but somehow it does

The offbeat romantic comedy is lifted by Molly Gordons inventive, engaging performance. Logan Lerman, left, and Molly Gordon play a couple on a weekend getaway where things go awry in “Oh, Hi!”Sony Pictures Classics · We’ve all seen movies that have a great premise and a solid story, but they fail in execution, because the filmmakers just can’t bring it off.But “Oh, Hi!” is that rare case, a movie that’s engaging and interesting moment by moment, but everything else is wrong with it. Writer-director Sophie Brooks locks into a narrative that’s unpleasant and far-fetched and that forces the characters to behave in ways that make no sense. And Brooks concludes the movie as if in search of the least dramatic ending she could devise. What holds it all together is Molly Gordon, who stars in the film and co-wrote the story with Brooks. She plays a young woman, Iris, who goes away for the weekend with her boyfriend, Isaac (Logan Lerman). The first 20 minutes of “Oh, Hi!” are the best, which is odd, because next to nothing happens. The movie begins with them driving down the road, stopping to buy strawberries. Then they get to the house that they’re renting, have sex, go swimming and have sex again.
